Experiences are the foundation of everything we do (Experience principles)

When I was first getting into a career, I always said to myself as long as I am always going to be learning or discovering something new, I knew I was in the right career. I also said to myself, make sure I work for or alongside people that are always going to teach me something new and challenge me and vice versa.

Recently I was able to learn a new skill of creating and defining experience principles for brands, services and products. Now before I get ahead of myself about not only how amazing, powerful and influential experience principles are to help create and later guide a design, I should first explain what they are.

Science Fiction in films and how we design the future

 

To start off my first ever post on this blog, I thought it might be a good idea to post a talk I gave back in April at a UXPA event in London. Science Fiction films have been an obsession of mine for as long as I can remember. I was always fascinated by the environments and technology that were created for them. Whilst studying my degree in Industrial Design and Technology at Loughborough University I found a lot of my inspiration for my designs came from the films I was watching, and looking back at other students work around me, I could see a trend in the designs being created depending on what film was just realised at the time. Let me put it this way, when Iron Man 1 was released there were a lot of Iron Man looking oil canisters and hair dryers! Or when Tron 2010 was realised a lot designs with some fancy lighting imbedded in them (yes I was guilty of it too!) were emerging.
